I purchased Hard Drive Mechanic. I am a network engineer, teach in the computer science division at a college and have my own consulting business. I have come across many problems that appear to have no explanation for cause and sometimes no FIX either. I was working on a machine for a company that had a "hard drive crash". All their accounting information was on there with no backup. Couldn't access the drive no matter what utilities I tried. thought it was a gonner for sure. I tried Norton Util, MicroScope, etc., and no luck. At my local computer store Ind saw they had Hard Drive Mechanic, figured I had nothing to loose and my customer obviously couldn't be in any worst condition. I purchased it, I booted from the floppy, and amazingly it repaired the drive. All the info was there and I backed it up on tape for the more than grateful customer.

Hard Drive Mechanic made me look very good and I am sure I will be getting recommendations from him now. I feel more confident knowing that if it's at all possible to recover a drive, I now have the right tools. What else can a technician ask for (and reasonable priced to boot).

Maybe hard drives are big, but bandwidth isn't. Smaller exe's means less time to download when using a Modem , which the Majority of people are still using in this World! Definately something every serious developer should use.

This utility was scanning my 1 TB LaCie harddrive thoroughly and that took time. It erroneoulsy tried to access the inaccessible System Volume Information directory and noted an Error while accessing it. It appears that this program works bvery similar to the propriatory Windows XP Checkdisk tool albeit providing much more information while performing then dsikscan
